The North Carolina High School Athletic Association football season kicks off Friday night and, along with it, the Times’ Football Forecast.

Reigning forecast king Sheldon Vick, the Times long-time freelance photographer, sits on the throne for the fourth time after derailing Times sports editor Paul Durham’s dominance in the final weeks of the 2023 season. Durham settled for tying former Times sports reporter Andrew Schnittker for second place while retired Times sports editor and current stringer Tom Ham landed uncharacteristically in fourth place.

Mitch Hayes, who finds time to participate despite coaching half the teams in Wilson County and working for Wilson Parks and Recreation Department, hopes his beloved Beddingfield Bruins will reward him this season for picking them every week.

Justin Hayes, the new reporter for Times sister publication The Enterprise of Spring Hope, sits in as the first Guest Picker of the 2024 season.
