    Greenville Christian deals 1st defeat to Cycs in 5

    It took five games but Greenville Christian outlasted Community Christian to hand the Cyclones their first loss in three matches this season Thursday afternoon at the Peace Church gym.

    The Cyclones won the first set 25-22 before dropping the next two 25-21, 25-16. Community Christian came back to take the fourth set 25-23 before the Knights closed out the match 15-10 in game 5.

    Emilee Finberg was all over the court for CCS, putting up 13 assists to go with nine kills and two blocks while serving two aces among her nine service points. Gracie Beamon also slammed nine kills and served five points with a kill.

    Ellie Gay served 14 points with two aces while Libby Bass led CCS with four aces on 10 points. Autumn Bradshaw passed out a team-high 22 assists and added two kills and a block while Olivia Carter rang up seven kills and Claire Carter added four kills. Payton Bush contributed five kills and nine service points with an ace.

    JUNIOR VARSITY

    The Cyclones, using many of the same players on the varsity, won the junior varsity contest that preceded the varsity match, downing the Knights 32-30 in an epic first set and completing the sweep 25-22 in the second.

    Gay led the way at the service line in the JV match as well, serving eight points with one ace while Bush served seven points with an ace. Anna Pierce and Bass each served two aces while Logan Hawkins matched Pierce’s five points at the line.

    The Cyclones’ JV unit will host DASH home school for a match Monday at Peace Church then both CCS teams will tip off Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association region play Tuesday against Christ Covenant, also at Peace Church.
