Show opens for Anderson’s ‘Aether’

Wilson Arts will feature the work of Wilson native Jahn Anderson in an exhibit opening with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson Arts Center.

Anderson boasts an impressive career as an artist, with more than 30 years of experience in professional painting. The Wilson native enjoys working in a variety of mediums and substrates. His Wilson Arts show is titled “Aether.”

“Aether denotes the realm of spirit, which I believe influences the inspiration and imagination of every artist. To put it bluntly, the heavens rule. It’s all metaphysical,” Anderson said.

Primarily featuring women and children, Anderson’s work captures the beauty and tragedy of life. His work has been featured in numerous galleries across North Carolina, solidifying his position as a talented artist in the region.

In 2023, Anderson received a Wilson Arts Individual Recovery Grant supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. Because of the grant, he has worked with middle school students in the Y-GIG program at Foundation YMCA.

Anderson previously had a solo exhibition in the fall of 2020 in Hammond Gallery at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center. At the time, Wilson Arts faced limitations in the number of visitors to the gallery due to the pandemic, but despite these challenges, Anderson went on to have a successful show.

The Truist Event Gallery exhibit will showcase mediums including oil, acrylic, graphite, ink and airbrush.

See the exhibit through Sept. 26. The reception and exhibition are both free and open to the public. Sponsors are Maureen O’Neill, Tonya and John Sorenson, Wilson Paint & Wallpaper and Wilson Rotary Club.
