FOUR OAKS — Sophomore Payton Durham, the “senior citizen” of her Fike High girls golf team’s scoring lineup, sparked the Golden Demons to their second straight 3-A Quad County Conference match victory Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Durham carded a 43 on nine holes of the Reedy Creek Golf Course layout, one shot off the pace of medalist Jenna Underwood of West Johnston and two shots ahead of freshmen teammates Kensley Hill and Loulie Harrison tied for third place, each with a 45.

The Demons trio posted a team score of 133 to top match host South Johnston by eight shots. Fike increased its overall lead to 10 strokes over the Trojans, 274-284. West Johnston, which is third overall with a 296, matched its week 1 score of 148 on Tuesday. Hunt was fourth with 156, followed by Southern Wayne (170), C.B. Aycock (173), Smithfield-Selma (177) and East Wake (180).

Also playing for Fike, but not scoring, were Addison Barnes with a 56, Addy Brinkley (53) and McKinley Pipkin (60).

Hunt was paced by Cassidy Kyles with a 48 while Morgan Radford (51) and Jacey Creech (57) factored in the scoring. Maizi Bunn, Leah Hawkins and Ellie Khelm also played for the Warriors.

Marinah Bryan’s 53 led CBA while Kate Horton and Sophie Veal each turned in a 60.

After two rounds of the Quad County season, Underwood holds an eight-stroke lead over South Johnston’s Danielle Morgan for the individual title, 81-89. Fike’s Hill and Durham are tied for third with 90 while Harrison lurks in sixth place overall with a 94.

The Quad County girls golf tour makes the first of two stops at Wilson’s Willow Springs Country Club next Monday, Sept. 9, with Fike High as the host.
