A fourth-minute goal by visiting Fellowship Baptist of Durham stood the rest of the way in a 1-0 home loss for the Wilson Christian varsity boys soccer team Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Their second straight shutout loss even the Chargers’ overall mark to 3-3 while the Eagles of the North Carolina Christian School Association 1-A ranks remained unbeaten through five matches.

Chargers head coach Don Samson said that the goal came as a result of WCA players not being in position to defend, leaving goalkeeper David Wall vulnerable.

“We didn’t transition well defensively from the outside coming in and they just put a good shot between David and the near post,” Samson said. “He made a good attempt, but it was a quality goal.”

It was good enough to stand the remainder of the match as the Eagles peppered Wall with 16 shots. He finished with 14 saves.

The NCCSA 2-A Chargers lost for the third time in their last four matches. Wilson Christian, which is 1-1 in NCCSA 2-A East Region play, returns to District 3 play Friday, Sept. 6, with a home date against Hilltop Christian of Fuquay-Varina.
