Wawa announces details for opening day celebrations

Wilson’s two Wawas will be open for business Sept. 19, and the company has announced its first-day celebrations that will include giveaways and a hoagie-building competition.

Both stores will open their doors at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 with ribbon-cuttings at each location. The Ward Boulevard location ribbon-cutting is at 9 a.m., and the Raleigh Road Parkway location event is at 11 a.m.

At both stores, Wawa officials said the first 100 customers will receive free T-shirts. Along with the shirts, Wawa will give away coffee, any size, from Sept. 19-29.

Wawa officials said the ribbon-cutting ceremony will include a parade of the company’s history, remarks from leadership about future expansion plans and remarks from local officials.

The event will conclude with a check presentation and a charitable hoagie-building contest between Wilson Fire/Rescue Services and the Wilson Police Department with a trophy and checks presented to both teams.

Wally Goose, the brand’s mascot, will be at both stores dancing to the music with the crowd.
