The 139-foot vessel, which has been illegally moored off the Empire Boat Ramp for years, is nearing the end of its stay at this location.

On July 25th, in coordination with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, the vessel was seized by the Oregon Department of State Lands (DSL) due to the continuing deterioration of the vessel.

DSL has contracted with NRC Environmental Services to begin removal of fuel, oil, and contaminated water, and the subsequent towing, dismantling, and disposal of the vessel. Work this weekend will involve pumping the vessel of contaminants and the diagnosis and repair of sources of water intrusion.

The vessel is now an actively monitored work site and must be avoided by the public, which is crucial to completing this urgent work safely and successfully to mitigate potential environmental and navigational hazards.

Please stay away from the vessel and the mobilized work equipment until it is removed from the area.
