On August 28th, 2024, around 4:45 PM, the Coos County Sheriff's Office received reports about a blue Honda Accord obstructing traffic and driving slowly on Highway 101. Oregon State Police informed our Dispatch that similar complaints about the vehicle had been reported as far north as Reedsport.

While in the area, Deputy H. Francis spotted the vehicle near milepost 255, with a line of cars behind it. Deputy Francis attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, continuing south at 45 mph. Thanks to Bandon Officer Carpenter, Stop Sticks were deployed, flattening both driver-side tires. Despite this, the driver continued until they were successfully boxed in.

Upon safely removing the driver, who was experiencing a medical event, they were taken to a local hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance. The vehicle was towed due to multiple flat tires and damage from the incident.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Francis want to extend our gratitude to the motorists who alerted us and those who safely cleared the way by adhering to the lights and sirens. Your cooperation helped us resolve this situation safely and effectively. Thank you!

I think I was far behind that vehicle, because coming away from Clear Lake to Lakeside going south, the traffic was super slow. I couldn't see the lead car but traffic was moving around 43-45 mph. This was Wednesday afternoon. I'm hoping the person is ok.
