Multiple agencies assist Douglas County with ending a vehicle chase near Myrtle Point
On July 15th, 2024, at 10:53 p.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office entered Coos County on Hwy 42 at mile marker 45 in active pursuit of a Toyota Camry. Rolling traffic control with lane and intersection closures July 17h
The City of Coos Bay Public Works Department was contacted by Hudson Pacific LLC. regarding the transportation of an oversized vessel through city limits. The oversized vessel that measures 19 feet 9 inches in width will make its way through the southern section of the city via the route highlighted in the map below. The move will occur the evening of July 17, 2024. During this move there will be pilot vehicles and traffic control with flaggers where necessary and occasional lane or intersection closures. The move through the city is expected to take approximately one hour. Please take caution and follow the directions of the flaggers and traffic control professionals. Please be patient and use caution when traveling near or on these roads at this time.
Fair board announces fair, event dates at fairgrounds
The floor has been raised in the Oaks building. Heating and cooling units are being installed in the upstairs of the Clarno building. And the most important is that we have leased an 8 acre field across Reedsford Road for more parking and there will be an entrance to the fair on the west side of the fairgrounds. Statement released on managing invasive barred owls to protect at-risk spotted owls
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is announcing its final environmental impact statement analyzing proposed barred owl management alternatives to protect northern and California spotted owls in Washington, Oregon and California from invasive barred owls. Jensen Mast of Reedsport graduates from Millikin University
Jensen Mast of Reedsport, OR graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biology from Millikin University. Jensen was one of more than 270 graduates recognized during the 2024 Spring Commencement ceremonies at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center on May 19, 2024. Millikin University is a private, comprehensive university with a diverse student population of approximately 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students. A Millikin education features Performance Learning, a unique learning approach offered only at Millikin that gives students the chance to build the confidence and skills to succeed before and after graduation. Chess Tournament for all ages, all skill levels August 3rd
Saturday, August 3rd at the 5th Street Park in Coquille, the Coquille Chess Club will host a fun chess tournament/potluck. Arrive at 9:30 a.m. The tournament is nonrated so no USCF membership fee required. This is a chance for family members to try out their chess skills alon with our scholastic players. Badminton, squirt guns and fun outdoor games will also be available between rounds. Expect to play five rounds of chess. Prizes will be outdoor toys. $5.00 registration fee. Hotdogs and condiments will be provided for players and families. Preregistration with drnancykeller@yahoo.com would be helpful to make sure we have enough hotdogs for all!
Unity By The Bay celebrates centennial with rededication July 21st
Unity By The Bay in North Bend, Oregon is celebrating the 100th birthday of its building on July 21st, at 1pm, when the building will be rededicated to the principles of Spirit. Originally built by First Presbyterian Church in 1924, the building was sold in 1967 when they moved to their new home. It was subsequently occupied by many businesses, including as a dinner theatre, butcher shop, call center and radio station. Unity By The Bay purchased and restored the building in 1999, and it remains a vibrant Unity center for spiritual growth today. Unity By The Bay is located at 2100 Union Street in North Bend (behind the Liberty Theatre).
Circle the Bay road run is Aug. 10
The early registration deadline for the Circle the Bay Run, the signature race of the South Coast Running Club, is this week. Osborne, Miller fastest in White Cedar Days Run
Jordan Osborne ran an impressive time of 41 minutes and 42 seconds in steamy conditions to win the 10-kilometer race in the annual White Cedar Days run in Powers over the holiday weekend. Luke Rector was second overall in 45:46, followed by female overall winner Emilie Martinez in 47:58. The other runners in the 10K race were Julien Temps (49:14), Jeremy Potter (49:14), Marie Richards (56:20) and Dan Robertson (1:02:07). The 5K winner was Cash Miller in 17:40. He was followed by Russell Crochetiere (24:40), Tryson Bradford (25:40) and overall female winner Tonya Lenser (25:47). Bandon golf team competes in national invitational
Bandon’s state champion boys golf team competed last week in the national high school invitational tournament in Frisco, Texas. For the first time in school history, Bandon was awarded the OSAA Cup for overall excellence in athletics, academics, activities and sportsmanship.
