(Alabama)- The Alabama Community College System reported enrollment numbers up over the previous year at the August Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had an enrollment that high,” Neil Scott, vice chancellor of student success said. "The 2023-2024 headcount was the highest they have seen since 2013-2014," said Scott.

According to Scott, enrollment in the ACCS schools was 83,379 in the fall of 2023, a 6.2% year-to-year increase. Enrollment in the spring of 2024 was 77,971, about 8% higher than the spring of 2023. Summer 2024 enrollment stood at 48,632, a 4.8% increase over the prior year.

The unduplicated headcount for the 2023-2024 school year was 122,867, a nearly 6% increase over 2022-2023. 21 of the 24 colleges saw an increase in the unduplicated headcount.

Scott told the trustees the system received 100,285 applications for the Fall 2024 semester. That is an increase of 8% year-to-year.

There is no set start date for the colleges, but Boone Kinard, executive director of external affairs for the ACCS, wrote in an email that all institutions will begin classes in the next two weeks.

78,064 students have registered for classes for Fall 2024, as of this morning according to Kinard, up 7.67% from 2023.

39,994 students have enrolled in the workforce development programs.
