Alabama Mother Succumbs to Injuries Following Incident With Child's Father

(Alabama)- Shannette Yvonne Colbert, 35, was a woman of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her children who tragically lost her life in Alabama on August 23, 2024. Colbert's passing has left a deep void in her family and the community, especially for her children who now face an unimaginable loss.

The tragic events unfolded around 11:00 PM when the emergency personnel received a call about a shooting at a residence in the 2700 block of East Cottonwood Road. According to investigators, an argument between McAdoo and Phillip Lee McAdoo, 42, of High Point, North Carolina, escalated on the night of August 23, 2024, leading McAdoo to draw a firearm and fire multiple rounds at Colbert.

When officers arrived, they discovered several children in the home. One of the children directed them to Colbert, who was lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began CPR and attempted to treat the wound. Despite their life-saving efforts, including those of medics, Colbert, who had been shot in the upper torso, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

As investigators interviewed the children, they gathered a description of the suspect, later identified as McAdoo. Nearby officers spotted McAdoo trying to leave the area and quickly initiated a traffic stop, leading to his arrest.

McAdoo has been charged with capital murder in connection to Colbert's death. The two were previously in a relationship and shared a child together.

Witnesses at the scene confirmed that the argument had escalated into violence, resulting in Colbert's fatal shooting. McAdoo has been charged with one count of capital murder and is being held without bond in the county jail.

Colbert's Echovita page states she had a vibrant spirit that touched the lives of many. On Facebook, a close friend of Colbert, Brownskin Angel, created a memorial video for her saying, " OMG! This hurts so bad," with crying face emojis.

Colbert's homegoing service will be on Sunday, September 1, at 1 pm in Houston Cty. at Scott's Chapel Mortuary.
