    Areas of Concern

    1. Nonfood Contact Surfaces (1 Point Deduction):
      • The inspection revealed food debris on the bottom shelf of the reach-in (RI) freezer located across from the fryer.
      • The walk-in (WI) cooler floors were noted to have food debris.
      • Additionally, the floor leading into the WI freezer was found to be damaged.
    2. Equipment Maintenance (1 Point Deduction):
      • The gaskets of the RI biscuit cooler were observed to be dirty and damaged.
      • The gasket of the bottom hot holding unit was heavily damaged.
      • A gap was noted between the floor and the door of the new WI cooler.
      • Shelves in the silver RI freezer were rusted and losing their coating, requiring replacement with corrosion-resistant materials.
    3. Dumpster Drain Plug (1 Point Deduction):
      • The drain plug for the dumpster was missing, which is necessary to prevent leaks and maintain sanitation around the waste disposal area.
    4. Facility Cleanliness (2 Point Deduction):
      • A significant amount of grease and food debris was found under the fryer unit.
      • Vent covers in the WI cooler had a visible buildup of dust, highlighting the need for more frequent cleaning of these areas.
    5. Storage of Personal Items (1 Point Deduction):
      • An employee's cell phone and speaker were found stored on the hot holding unit, which is not in compliance with regulations that require personal items to be stored away from food and food-related equipment.

The Churches Chicken on Carolina Avenue in Bessemer keeps the front doors locked to keep the robbers out. If you want chicken you must go through the drive through. Better have your pistol locked and loaded while waiting in line.
