Judge Mathis finally speaks on divorce: "Don't neglect your wife, I'm going to get my wife back"

(August 30, 2024)- Earlier this week, Alabamians found out that Judge Greg Mathis' wife, Linda Mathis, filed for divorce from her husband of 39 years.

Linda Wants Out

According to a report by Media Take Out, Linda Mathis’s decision to file for divorce was not due to any scandalous reasons. Instead, close friends of Linda revealed that the filing was rooted in the strain caused by Judge Mathis’s intense work schedule. At 64, Judge Mathis continues to run a series of charities and manages a production company, reportedly working 70-80 hours a week. This relentless pace has taken a toll on their relationship.

An insider close to Linda shared, “Linda sacrificed her whole life for that man. He’s been working 24/7 for the better part of the last 30 years.” The friend continued, “[Judge Mathis] promised Linda that he would slow down and that they could travel the world together and enjoy the rest of their lives. But he’s not trying to slow down.”

AOL News reported that Linda stated "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce, and she wants to waive her requirement for spousal support.

Judge Mathis Finally Speaks

Since then, TMZ managed to speak with Judge Mathis about the divorce, and as expected, he was truthful.

"I'm not holding up very well. I would say that uhm, maybe I will be an example to other men, a precautionary tale. Don't neglect your wife," said Judge Mathis.

He continued, " I'm at the airport now, flying out. I have for 25 years. My wife has been third. Serving the community, taping my showing, having fun with my friends...that's what happened. Never be too busy or have too much fun beyond your wife."

Judge Mathis also admitted that he made a promise to Linda that when he began taping his new show, he would make her more of a priority. However, he didn't hold his end of the bargain and continued to neglect Linda, which he is now paying for.

" I'm still doing the same thing. I'm still on the road. In terms of being in another city, I was gone for three weeks. That's what July 17th meant," Judge Mathis said.

Ultimately, Judge Mathis said he plans on winning his wife back by changing and has begun to make changes already.

" I'm trying to get my wife back. I have to show her that, though. Hopefully, I can show why we are there together, and hopefully, she does not complete the process. I'm going to get my wife back," he said with a serious look on his face.

Judge Mathis ended the interview by clarifying some of the rumors by stating that he has not cheated on his wife nor does he have any outside kids. He simply works too much and has neglected his marriage.
