(Alabama)- Alabama has seen a notable influx of new residents from various states in recent years. World Population Review reported the state's current population stands at 5,143,033, with the expected population being a little over 5.3 million by 2029.

Understanding where these newcomers are coming from can provide insights into the changing demographic landscape of the state. Here are the top eight states sending people to Alabama, according to Stacker.

    1. Georgia

Georgia tops the list, with 23,155 people moving to Alabama in 2022. This influx represents 16.63% of new residents from other states. The close proximity and economic opportunities in Alabama, particularly Birmingham, Montgomery, and Huntsville, make it an attractive place for relocation.

    2. Florida

Coming in second, 18,236 residents moved from Florida to Alabama, making up 13.09% of new arrivals. The appeal of Alabama’s lower cost of living and access to Southern charm draws many Floridians seeking a change.

    3. Tennessee

With 11,634 people relocating from Tennessee, this state accounts for 8.35% of Alabama's new residents. The cultural connections and shared Southern heritage often motivate this move.

    4. Texas

Texas sent 10,102 new residents to Alabama, representing 7.25% of the influx. Many Texans are attracted to Alabama's affordability along with the culture being pretty similar to that of Texas.

    5. California

From California, 8,012 people moved to Alabama, making up 5.75% of the new residents. The search for a more affordable lifestyle and a slower pace of life drives this migration.

    6. South Carolina

6,298 residents moved from South Carolina to Alabama, comprising 4.52% of the new arrivals. Shared cultural values and a similar climate often influence this relocation.

    7. Mississippi

With 5,736 people moving to Alabama, Mississippi accounts for 4.12% of the state's new residents. The close geographic and cultural ties make this a familiar transition for many.

    8. Louisiana

Rounding out the top eight, 5,461 newcomers from Louisiana represent 3.92% of Alabama's influx. The friendly Southern lifestyle and job opportunities are key attractions for many Louisianans.
