According to People Magazine, Greg Mathis Jr. and Elliott Cooper are set to get married. The "Mathis Family Matters" star and Cooper plan to exchange vows in a private ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, one of their "favorite vacation spots," on October 21, 2024. They will also hold a second, larger celebration for friends and family in Los Angeles next year.

During the interview, Cooper said, "We’re very aware of the times we currently live in and what our relationship represents to others," the couple shares. "We realize that our marriage, and our relationship, can provide a roadmap to Queer people 'vintage' and young who, just like us, deserve to know that there is nothing wrong with them and that they have a place in this world."

    Judge Mathis Fans are Upset

To show support towards his son, Judge Greg Mathis, posted on Instagram that he was proud of the couple for being courageous enough to "keep it real" during their interview. Judge Mathis' supportive post sent some of his fans into a frenzy with the post gaining more than 40,000 likes and thousands of comments.

One follower, drreneesmith, commented, “Keep it real and love him enough to tell him the truth. No sir.”

Another follower, indigo_amate, posted a lengthy response, saying, “I rebuke the spirit of confusion in Jesus' name! Lord heal the minds of all who may be confused in Jesus' name! Lord, we know the mind is the battleground where Satan likes to work, but we know you are a Restorer, a Healer, a Waymaker, a Sovereign Lord, and we ask that you extend your grace and mercy, renew their minds, and give them a new spirit in Jesus' name! Lord, close every doorway that has been opened, in Jesus' name, let your sons submit to you and resist the devil so he may flee, as you said in your word, in Jesus' name!”

Another follower, ebsims74, expressed frustration, saying, “For ALL the BLACK WOMEN (especially the single ones) who are congratulating/supporting this union, this is where a lot of your BLACK MEN are! ALSO, for ALL who call themselves CHRISTIANS and are openly supporting this type of union, please explain your support with scripture(s). I'm commanded to LOVE these individuals, not advocate and/or support their lifestyles!!”

Similarly, therealshaw commented, “Wow, disappointed that this is what Judge Mathis refers to as keeping it real. Smh.”

Linda Mathis Replies With Her Opinion

In contrast, Greg Mathis Jr.'s mother, Linda Mathis, responded with joy and affection from her official account, writing, “Congrats to my handsome son Greg and my (to be) handsome son, love you both so much!! Elliott, can’t wait to call you a FULL-FLEDGED SON! ♥️💙💛🧡‼️”

Donnielatimer7 offered a more measured response, quoting a scripture, by saying, “Let those who are without sin cast the first stone. That’s between them and God.”

Another follower raisawhite5 commented, "Congratulations to the both of you. You're good in my eyes. As for those who disagree everyone is entitled to live as they please. Love is love."
