I Used the YUKA App to Scan the Mielle Organics Rice Water and the Results Were Shocking

Yesterday, I published an article regarding multiple women claiming to have suffered from hair loss after using Mielle Organics haircare products. For over a decade, Alabamans have had access to the haircare brand with products available at several retailers, including Sally Beauty, Walmart, Target, and local beauty supply stores.

The CEO Monique Rodriguez responded in a TikTok video by saying, "We continue to drive this business forward. Our products are created with healthy ingredients and they are formulated to deliver effective results. We've always taken great care in ensuring the quality of our products and that commitment has never wavered."

    NewBreak and Yuka Helped Me

In the comments, I mentioned that I had experienced hair loss while using the Mielle Organics Rice Water earlier this year, and multiple women have expressed hair loss after using Mielle products too. The only product I added to my haircare routine was the rice water, which is meant to strengthen your hair.

One NewsBreak user, Mind Your Business Period mentioned the Yuka App. According to the company's website, "Yuka deciphers product labels and analyzes the health impact of food products and cosmetics."

Yuka takes pride in its commitment to integrity, as no brand or manufacturer can influence the scores or recommendations provided. Brands cannot pay to advertise their products on the app. To maintain objectivity, Yuka has developed three responsible funding sources, ensuring no conflict of interest could compromise its analyses.

This was my first time hearing of Yuka, so I downloaded it to get more information about the rice water I had purchased to see if it was the culprit of my sudden hair loss.

    The Results Were Shocking

The Yuka app is easy to use. Simply give the app permission to access your camera and snap a picture of the product's barcode. Out of 100 points, the Mielle Organics Rice Water scored 39 points, giving it a poor overall rating with six risk warning ingredients in the products.

The first ingredient with a moderate risk rating was phenoxyethanol, a pollutant. Other ingredients listed with low risk ratings were polyquaternium, oleth-20, disodium EDTA, glycerin-2 cocoate, and the added fragrance for the smell. Those with low risk ratings were given warnings due to them causing a potential allergen reaction or being a potential irritant when used on the skin.

Have you notice how many black beauty supplies stores are they? Not one .I couldn't understand how all these black hair products come about. I would not use over half the products in the BS stores and they don't know what they selling them self When I growing up black use the same shampoo as the white. We had no black hair shampoo. Its crazy how things are now.
