Ellen Degeneres Reveals Triple Medical Diagnosis: "I Don’t Even Know How I’m Standing Up Right Now"

Comedian and former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres recently shared a deeply personal revelation during her new Netflix comedy special, For Your Approval. In her signature light-hearted style, DeGeneres, 66, revealed that she has been diagnosed with three conditions: osteoporosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Despite the serious nature of these diagnoses, Ellen couldn’t help but infuse humor into the moment. “I don’t even know how I’m standing up right now,” she joked. “I’m like a human sandcastle. I could disintegrate in the shower.” Reflecting on the difficulties of aging gracefully under the public eye, she added, “It’s hard to be honest about aging and seem cool.”

Ellen also opened up about the pain of arthritis, recounting a day when she experienced "excruciating pain" that led her to believe she had torn a ligament. However, after an MRI, doctors diagnosed her with arthritis. “I said, ‘How did I get that?’ And he said, ‘Oh, it just happens at your age.’”

For Alabama residents who may be dealing with similar health conditions, Ellen’s transparency offers both a sense of connection and understanding. Osteoporosis, for example, is a bone disease that occurs when bone mineral density and bone mass decrease, leading to weaker bones and an increased risk of fractures. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), this can be a common concern as people age.

DeGeneres also spoke about the mental health challenges she has faced. Following the backlash and criticism she encountered in recent years, Ellen began going to therapy, where she learned she had OCD and ADHD. According to the NIH, OCD is a disorder where individuals experience uncontrollable and recurring thoughts (obsessions) and engage in repetitive behaviors (compulsions).

In a special blend of humor and vulnerability, Ellen DeGeneres continues to inspire fans, offering a reminder that facing health challenges with honesty and laughter can bring people together, no matter what stage of life they’re in.
