'Jay-Z Was Not Coming Out That Room': Gene Deal Exposes Sean Carter's Close Call With 2Pac

In recent months, Sean "Jay-Z" Carter has found himself in the spotlight, but not for reasons he or his wife, Beyoncé, would be proud of. In an interview posted by Cam Capone News on October 10, 2024, Gene Deal, a former bodyguard for Sean "Diddy" Combs, shared an unexpected story involving Jay-Z and the late 2Pac.

    Hotel Hideout

According to Deal, before one of Jay-Z's concerts in Las Vegas, 2Pac learned about the performance and had the rapper hiding in a hotel room. “I don’t know how Pac found out that JAY-Z had a show, but JAY-Z was not coming out that room,” Deal recounted in the interview. This incident, which had never been made public until now, sheds new light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics between some of hip-hop's biggest stars during the height of the East Coast-West Coast rivalry.

Deal explained that several phone calls were made to ensure Jay-Z's safety and to prevent a confrontation. People involved in these discussions included influential figures like Chaz Williams, Big D, Eric B, and Suge Knight. “Suge said, ‘Yo, man, that ain’t me. That’s Pac with his wild a**,’” Deal recalled, noting that it was Suge who eventually convinced 2Pac to allow Jay-Z to perform without incident. “Suge Knight told Pac to give JAY-Z a pass so he could go do his concert, because Jay wasn’t coming out of that room, you know, to do nothing.”

While the exact reason behind 2Pac’s animosity toward Jay-Z remains unclear, Deal speculated that it might have stemmed from Jay-Z’s collaboration with The Notorious B.I.G. on the song “Brooklyn’s Finest” from Jay-Z's 1996 album Reasonable Doubt. On the track, Biggie delivered a line that many saw as a direct jab at 2Pac: “If Faith have twins, she’d probably have two pacs/ Get it? 2 Pac’s?”
