The Carolina Flames closed out their summer showcase softball schedule with a runner-up finish at the Diamond Classic Asheville Showcase. The Flames traveled to Asheville, NC on Aug. 10 and 11 and had a strong showing at the event. They came away with three wins on the weekend and earned a spot in the Championship game on Sunday; however, they were not able to pull a victory against a strong NC Bandits team based out of Davie County.

The Flames started the weekend with a victory over the Carolina Thunder by a score of 7-2. They were led at the plate by East Surry High School’s tandem of Lilliana Clodfelter and Emma Rae Love, as each player drove in two runs for the Flames.

Kyleigh Cleary of Reagan High School started in the circle for the Flames and was relieved by Elkin High School’s Alyssa “AJ” Jenkins.

Game 2 for the Flames didn’t go so well as they lost to the Bandits but rebounded in Game 3 to claim a win over the Carolina Drive 18U 6-5.

The Flames collected nine hits in the game as Jenkins and Celia Robertson, East Surry High School, each collected two hits. In game four the Flames defeated M.R. Elite Mad Rabbits 8-3 to claim their spot in the Championship. In the top of the second inning,

Allie Burgess of South Stokes High School, doubled scoring two runs. Aubreigh Large, Patrick County High School, followed with another double scoring a run and Lacey Sutphin, Patrick County High School, then singled scoring a run.

Jenkins started in the circle for the Flames and the right-handed pitcher only allowed three hits and three runs over five innings while striking out four and walking none. The Flames ended up with 12 hits in the game as Sutphin, Clodfelter, and Love each collected two hits. Love led the team with three RBI’s and went 2-3 on the day.
