Early in-person voting underway for primary runoffs
Early in-person voting is currently underway across the state to settle a number of races that were not decided in March. The primary runoff, also known as ‘second primaries’, will hold in-person voting on May 14. Man missing on Yadkin River: Doesn't resurface after saving struggling relatives
Authorities say a man made a daring rescue to help several family members who were struggling in a local river, but eventually slipped into the water himself, without resurfacing. Authorities are still searching for him, but as of 7 p.m., he had been missing for more than six hours. North Wilkesboro man charged after alleged assault of coach
School officials at Forbush High School have said they do not know many details but did confirm there was an incident involving a coach and parent from the visiting North Wilkesboro team following a baseball game on April 12. Principal Denny Key said the incident occurred after most people had left the game and was in an area somewhat secluded from the field. According to the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office, a North Wilkesboro man, Brian Rhodes, age 44, was charged. Sheriff Nick Smitherman said, "after our investigation, charges were issued in the form of a criminal summons for simple assault and subsequently served by the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office."
East Bend Senior Center to host on-site mobile mammograms
The East Bend YVEDDI Senior Center, located at 473 East Main St., is partnering with Novant Health to offer mobile mammogram screenings. The Forbush Lady Falcons soccer team has racked up several recent wins. The Falcons claimed a 7-0 win Monday against West Wilkes. The team is currently 7-6-1 overall and 6-1 in conference. They are set to play North Surry on Tuesday. The Lady Falcons softball team has also been in the win column. The team defeated North Surry on Saturday 12-1. On Thursday the Lady Falcons beat Elkin 10-0. Cases of CWD-positive deer not detected in any new counties
RALEIGH — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is confirming 13 new cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) from deer samples submitted since July 1, 2023.
