Lady Rams beat Forbush
Starmount’s softball team claimed a victory over Forbush with a score of 9 to 8 on March 11. The Lady Rams also won their gam against Reagan High School on March 13 with a score of 4 to 3. The Lady Rams are scheduled to play Reagan again on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Forbush claims two victories over West Wilkes
Forbush Baseball Coach Jack Moss said his team is currently at the top of their conference after two wins last week over West Wilkes. Forbush played at home on Tuesday with a final score of 7 to 8 over West Wilkes. On Thursday the Falcons took on the West Wilkes Blackhawks in Millers Creek. The final score was 14 to 5, with Forbush the victor.
Writers Road Show to feature novel 'Indigo Field'
The Northwest Regional Library System (NWRL) will be hosting several special events coming up as part of its Writers Road Show. Heroin and meth confiscated, drug charges filed
Two individuals are facing multiple drug charges after deputies observed a “suspicious” vehicle at the Hamptonville Gas and Grocery on March 15. Detectives with the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team were patrolling the area and noticed the driver of a vehicle litter in the parking lot of the business. The vehicle proceeded to leave the business and the driver and passenger were recognized from prior narcotics investigations by the ACE Team. Medic 4 outpost gets interior renovation
An open house was held Friday at the Yadkin County Medic 4 outpost, located at 4116 Old U.S. 421, Hamptonville, to officially unveil indoor renovations that were recently completed. Paramedics stationed at Medic 4 work 24-hour shifts at the site so it is equipped with two small bedrooms, a kitchen, shower and washing machine and dryer. “It’s their home every fourth day,” explained Yadkin EMS Assistant Director Chris Bolden. The site has been used as the Medic station 4 since around 2006, said EMS Director Keith Vestal. The updates to the building included new flooring as well as an updated living room. Community leaders and EMS staff stopped by Friday during the open house to enjoy refreshments and see the updated building.

Surry-Yadkin Works placed 95 students in pre-apprenticeships for the Fall 2023 semester. This is the largest group of pre-apprentices that the program has ever placed. New stages built in Elkin thanks to economic development grant
Construction is moving along for two new stages near the Trails and Heritage Center on Standard St. in downtown Elkin. Town Manager Brent Cornelison said the projects are expected to be completed by early June, just in time for the annual NC Trail Days festival. A drug-related arrest in Yadkin County last month has prompted public service announcements from the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office. On Feb. 20, detectives with the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team conducted a knock and talk investigation at 1613 Beechwood Road in Yadkinville. The interaction resulted in a search warrant being executed at the residence. Last month the YCSO ACE Team concluded a narcotics investigation on Larry Grayson Wells, age 39 of Hamptonville. Area students recently competed the District 7 NC Wildlife Youth Hunter Education Skills Tournament. District 7 includes Ashe, Alleghany, Watauga, Wilkes, Surry, Stokes, Yadkin, Iredell, Alexander, Davie, and Forsyth. The event was hosted by Hunting Creek Preserve and led by NC Wildlife Officers.
