Simpson named to Gardner-Webb University Honor Roll
BOILING SPRINGS — Benjamin Simpson of Yadkinville was named to the Gardner-Webb University Honor Roll for the 2023 fall semester. Simpson is a junior majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in homeland security and a minor in human services. The Honor Roll is composed of undergraduate college students enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours must earn a 3.70 to a 3.99 Gardner-Webb University semester grade point average, with no grade below a “C’. The University commends Simpson for this significant scholastic achievement in higher education.

Incumbent victories and newcomers win in Primary
Yadkin County Commissioners Kevin Austin and David Moxley both have come out of the primary election victorious. Austin had 3,827 votes and Moxley 4,599. Also claiming a spot on the November ballot for Yadkin County Commissioner was Tim Parks. Parks received the highest number of votes in the Republican primary with 5,163 votes. All three candidates will be on the ballot in November for the three open seats on the county board. In the Yadkin School Board election, incumbent Sharon Yale will reclaim her seat. She had 4,324 votes. Newcomers Kenny Gooden (5,201 votes), Sarah Gough Boles (4,507 votes), and Cody Spicer (4,455 votes) claimed victory in the Board of Education election. The four candidates will take office this summer ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Of the 24,951 registered voters in Yadkin County, 8,929 voted in the 2024 Primary.

In a four to one vote on Monday night the Elkin City Schools Board of Education decided to bring its online Global Learning Academy to an end at the close of this school year. Jonesville father accused of assaulting six-year old daughter
A Jonesville man facing child abuse charges was arrested Monday at 10:30 a.m. at East Wilkes High School. According to a press release from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year old Adam Hal Cave, was served a Yadkin County warrant for felony child abuse. Cave was arrested at East Wilkes High School but the charges did not originate from a Wilkes County School, the release stated. The charges were filed by Jonesville Police Department.
