Scholarships awarded to Yadkin students
The Shallow Ford Foundation announces that two students from Yadkin County have received scholarship awards thanks to the local donors who have generously made these opportunities possible. Austin Choplin, class of 2024 from Forbush High School, was awarded the Marvin’s Garage Doors Scholarship in Honor of Marvin Brown. The award of $1,000 was available to a graduating senior from Forbush High School who has demonstrated good character and ambition and is seeking a degree or certificate related to a career in electronics, welding, or construction....
Surry-Yadkin Works interns sign with Hugh Chatham Health
DOBSON — Fifteen area students have completed pre-apprenticeships at Hugh Chatham Health and are accepting apprenticeships or part-time positions to continue their education in the healthcare field through the Surry-Yadkin Works program. Fifteen of the pre-apprentices, 11 of whom are area high school students and four who are adult students at Surry Community College, will be working full-time and part-time at Hugh Chatham Health while continuing their education. Eleven students complete SCC Truck Driver Training Class at Yadkin Center
DOBSON — Surry Community College held a program completion event for the most recent truck driving class on May 16. Yadkin school system to operate summer meal sites for students
The Yadkin County School System will operate the 2024 Summer Feeding Program at several sites in the county. Children 18 and under are eligible to receive a breakfast and lunch meal at no cost. Lady Cardinals win first ever state championship in softball
DURHAM– The Lady Cardinals of East Wilkes High School faced off with the Panthers of Northside-Pinetown on the field at Duke University as they battled for the NCHSAA 1A State Championship in softball on Friday and Saturday. Lady Cardinals headed to State Championship
East Wilkes Lady Cardinals are headed to play in the 1A NCHSAA State Championship in softball. The Lady Cards beat the Black Knights of Robbinsville 4-0 on Tuesday, May 21 as they hosted. The Cardinals then traveled the long road to Robbinsville on Friday, May 24 and won 9-6, claiming the Regional win in the best 2 out of 3 matchup. The Cardinals will now face off with the Panthers of Northside-Pinetown on Friday, May 31 at Duke University in Durham. Game time is set for 5 p.m. In the best 2 out of 3 matchup, the second game will be played on Saturday, June 1 at 11am and if a third game is needed, it will be played on Saturday at 5pm.
