Gardner-Webb University announces Dean’s List recipients
BOILING SPRINGS — Benjamin Simpson of Yadkinville was named to the Gardner-Webb University Dean’s List for the 2024 spring semester. Benjamin is a senior majoring in criminal justice with a double minor in homeland security and human services. The Dean’s List is composed of undergraduate college students enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours must earn a 3.70 to a 3.99 Gardner-Webb University semester grade point average, with no grade below a “C”. The National Dean’s List was established in 1978, as a way to recognize excellent academic achievement by college students. The University commends Simpson for this significant scholastic achievement in higher education.

Brittney Moreland named to SNHU President's List
MANCHESTER, NH — Brittney Moreland of Jonesville has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Winter 2024 President’s List. The winter terms run from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer. Wilkes Heritage Museum plans Candlelight Ghost Tours
The Wilkes Heritage Museum will host Candlelight Ghost Tours in Historic Downtown Wilkesboro on Saturday, June 15. Ghost tours are 90 minute walking tours that begin at 7:30 pm. Yadkin budget hearing planned for Thursday
Yadkin County Manager Lisa Hughes will review the 2025 fiscal year budget at a special called meeting on Thursday. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Commissioners Chambers of the Human Services Building, located at 217 East Willow St., Yadkinville. There are no proposed changes to the county tax rate in the 2025 budget. Beginning at 7:25 there will be a public hearing on the Economic Development Funds Appropriation in the proposed 2025 Budget, followed by a public hearing on the proposed budget. The board is expected to vote on the budget following the public hearing.

Yadkinville to host Friday after Five concert June 14
Yadkinville’s downtown Friday After Five Concert series will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 14 on East Main St. This “Rock the Boat” themed gathering will feature live music from the Camel City Yacht Club. Food trucks will be on site and drinks will be available for purchase. The concert is free and attendees are encouraged to bring a chair. Whooping cough on the rise
The Yadkin County Health and Human Services agency has issued guidance around vaccines and health precautions due to an increase in Pertussis cases in the region. The North Carolina Division of Public Health has reported an increase in Pertussis cases in the Western part of the state. Since March 1, 109 cases have been identified throughout the state with additional cases under investigation. In the year 2023, only 103 pertussis cases were reported statewide.
