Frozen Mudslide Pie: Refreshing, Easy, and Irresistible!
2024-07-17
This no-bake Frozen Chocolate Mudslide Pie is the ultimate summer treat that is refreshing, easy to make, and a crowd favorite! With a chocolate pie crust, creamy coffee infused filling, and homemade chocolate whipped topping, you have a dessert that is sure to satisfy any sweet craving!
Have you ever had a Frozen Mudslide Drink? If not, it’s a mudslide cocktail made with coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua), Bailey’s Irish Cream, vodka, and heavy cream. My version uses vanilla ice-cream with the liquor to make it more of a boozy milkshake, but nonetheless, its a drink that is quite satisfying. This mud pie recipe has all the same great flavors as the cocktail, just without the need for alcohol, which of course makes this the perfect no bake dessert for people of all ages.
FROZEN CHOCOLATE MUDSLIDE PIE RECIPE INGREDIENT NOTES
This chocolate frozen dessert comes together using simple ingredients in no time!
Pie Crust– I love using a pre-made chocolate pie crust, however, I know they can be hard to find. If so, any pie crust works, or feel free to use Oreo cookies with melted butter to make a cookie crust.
Chocolate Chips– for this recipe, you will need semi-sweet chocolate chips, both regular size and mini chocolate chips.
Instant Coffee– this brings the coffee infusion to the creamy filling, any brand works.
Hot Water– you’ll use this to combine with the instant coffee.
Sour Cream– any brand works, this adds the creaminess to the coffee filling.
Sugar– granulated sugar brings the sweetness to the pie.
Vanilla Extract– use pure vanilla extract versus imitation as it adds the most flavor.
Heavy Whipping Cream– you’ll use this to combine with the powdered sugar and cocoa powder until stiff peaks form for the whipped topping.
Powdered Sugar– this sweetens the whipped topping.
Cocoa Powder– I use Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder, this brings the chocolate addition to the homemade whipped cream.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE MUDSLIDE FROZEN PIE
Melt 1 cup chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low-medium heat.
When chocolate starts to melt, remove from heat and continuously mix until smooth and creamy.
Set aside and allow chocolate to cool for about 10 minutes.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the water and coffee. Allow to sit for about 2 minutes.
Add the sour cream, sugar, and vanilla to the coffee mixture and stir until all is combined.
Stir in melted chocolate. Mix well. Spread mixture into prepared chocolate pie crust. Place pie into refrigerator.
Meanwhile, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder in a medium bowl.
Beat mixture with a handheld electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
Remove pie from refrigerator and spread the cream mixture over the bottom layer making sure to smooth evenly.
Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips on top and place the pie in the freezer for a minimum of 6 hours. Slice and serve!
STORING THIS MUDSLIDE DESSERT
Due to this recipe being frozen, when not serving, it needs to stay in the freezer. You can prepare this pie up to 48 hours in advance and freeze until ready to serve.
To store leftovers, cover pie in an airtight container. It will last up to 3 months. You can allow to thaw for a few minutes before serving to make it a bit more like a cream pie consistency.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
This pie can be served on its own or with a scoop of ice cream on top. You can also add some caramel sauce, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, hot fudge sauce on top, or add some maraschino cherries.
Serve with a cold glass of milk, or an evening cup of coffee when company comes over.
Using a shortcut, pre-made pie crust, this can be is assembled and ready to chill in less than 15 minutes! Pretty impressive, right?! Plus, you can prepare this ahead of time and simply keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve!
