I don’t know about you, but when summer weather hits, nothing is more refreshing to sip on than a margarita. With this tasty Hawaiian Margarita recipe, it’ll taste just like you’re on a tropical vacation
Why You’ll Love these Tropical Margaritas
Quick and easy– using only 5 ingredients, you can have these ready to serve any time desired.
Party favorite– whether you are hosting a BBQ, sitting pool side or on the beach, or simply want to impress people with tropical luau bliss, these drinks are a favorite with adults!
A refreshing twist– if you love a traditional margarita, you’ll love this variation! A combination of sweet, tart, tangy, and delicious all in one glass.
Hawaiian Margarita Ingredient Notes
Tequila– use whichever Tequila is your favorite or on hand. My favorite is Silver Tequila (Blanco), however, my husband loves using Reposado. Any type works great!
Triple Sec– also called orange liqueur or cointreau, this adds the orange flavor that really pairs well with the pineapple.
Pineapple Juice– always use 100% juice, this brings the fruity, main flavor to the drink.
Coconut Water– this really brings the tropical flavor through the coconut addition, you can also use coconut rum or grand marnier if desired.
Lime Juice– freshly squeezed is best, this balances the sweetness with a touch of tartness.
Garnish: pineapple wedges or lime slices, optional but highly recommend as it makes these both pretty AND delicious.
How to make Hawaiian Margaritas
Rim your glass- use a lime wedge around the rim to wet the glass. Dip into margarita salt (if using). PRO TIP: You can also add in some lime zest to the margarita salt to really bring this to a new level.
Prepare cocktail- add a handful of ice, tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice, coconut water, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Place lid on and shake until the outside of your shaker is cold. Strain into prepared glass and garnish with pineapple chunks, wedges, or lime slices.
Variations and Substitutions
Frozen Hawaiian Margaritas– if you want a frozen, blended treat, simply add all ingredients to a blender with about 1-2 cups of ice. Blend until smooth and pour into glass.
Blue Hawaiian Margarita Recipe– for a fun variation, try using Blue Curacao in place of triple sec.
Coconut Water– if you don’t want to use this, feel free to omit. Or use coconut rum/ coconut extract in it’s place.
Fruit Garnish– lime, pineapple, or maraschino cherries all work great as garnish.
Storing Hawaiian Margaritas
If you want to prepare these ahead of time, feel free to prepare in a pitcher and store in the refrigerator up to 3 days. Stir before ready to pour and serve.
You can also store in an airtight container with plastic wrap on top.
If making a frozen version, store in the freezer until ready to serve.
