A former Colorado county clerk who became the first election official to be charged for a crime linked to the 2020 presidential election was found guilty on seven of ten charges on Monday, including four felony charges—including attempting to influence a public servant. According to prosecutors, Tina Peters, who once served as the Mesa County Clerk, gave another county official’s ID badge to an investigator associated with Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow, who became one of the highest profile election deniers after former President Donald Trump’s loss in 2020. She was indicted in March 2022 for her role in the scheme. Peters became a minor celebrity in the conspiracy-laden world of Lindell, speaking at far-right conferences and rallies hosted by the pillow mogul . Peters tried to use her newfound fame as an election denier to run for Colorado secretary of state in 2022, but lost in the Republican primary . Peters was previously sentenced to house arrest last year after being found guilty in a separate misdemeanor obstruction case for refusing to hand her iPad over to investigators serving a warrant. Peters is scheduled for sentencing on October 3, and could face prison time for the felonies.
