King Charles’ Bank Notes Sell for More Than $1 Million at Auction

A series of new British banknotes featuring King Charles ’ portrait recently sold for $1,172,070 at an auction after the notes entered circulation in June, according to The Telegraph . Collectors are reportedly looking for banknotes with very low serial numbers. For example, a single 1o pound note with the serial number HB01 00002 sold for $21,796 at the Spink & Son auction. The closer to the sought after 00001 serial number, the more expensive, according to The Telegraph . Another sheet of 50 pound notes sold for $33,336 at the same Spink auction. “I am thrilled that the auctions and public ballot of low numbered King Charles III banknotes have raised a remarkable £914,127 that will be donated to ten charities chosen by Bank of England staff,” Sarah John, Chief Cashier and Executive Director of Banking said in a statement. “Each charity does incredible work and the monies raised will have a positive impact on people and their communities across the UK,” she added.
