Authorities Explore Manslaughter Charges in Bayesian Sinking

Italian prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio said during a Saturday press conference that they have begun a manslaughter investigation into the sinking of British tech mogul Mike Lynch’s yacht, which killed himself and six others. “There are many possibilities for culpability,” Cartosio said. “It could be just the captain. It could be the whole crew. It could be the guard. We are evaluating all of the factors to see whose behavior fault can be assigned to,” he added. Filings are already in order—Cartosio added that “a dossier, at present against unknown persons, alleging the crime of negligent shipwreck and manslaughter,” had been submitted to the prosecutor’s office. Video released Friday shows the 60-second sinking of the 184ft vessel disappearing into the water as a “mini-tornado,” as described by Fabio Cefalù, a local who watched the boat sink, to the Guardian .
