Jon Stewart Can’t Believe Election Is ‘In Any Way Close’ After Trump Dancing

Jon Stewart is “baffled” by the support Donald Trump gets, particularly after his Monday night dance-fest , which the late-night host said showed what an “utterly surreal avant-garde performance art of a f---ing election we’re having.”

The Daily Show host opened his Weekly Show with Jon Stewart podcast by remarking that “the idea that this [election] is in any way close is the most baffling” he could imagine in the final days of a presidential race.

“This guy is raising money with a dance marathon in front of a bunch of people in 95 degree weather who are having diabetic coma issues and passing out, and then having to get taken out by EMTs while Kristi Noem stands there scanning the crowd for dog to shoot,” he joked.

Trump both swayed and stood completely still as he listened to his campaign playlist on stage for over 40 minutes during a Pennsylvania town hall event earlier this week, while some of its attendees received medical attention from fainting. The strange scene drew plenty of attention as an example for voters and pundits of Trump’s apparent mental decline . However, many of Trump’s supporters still found a way to see the awkward event in a positive light, as Stewart pointed out.

“This whole [campaign] is falling apart and becoming maniacal,” he said, “And then you go online and [Trump’s supporters] are like, ‘Trump, he killed that rally. That was awesome. He stood up the whole time and didn’t fall once.’ This is bonkers,” he continued. “What a f---ing Fellini film this guy’s campaign has turned into.”

Though Stewart continued to poke fun at Trump’s antics, he also emphasized that if any other candidate for president had done something remotely similar to Trump at that town hall, their hopes for the White House would have been dashed. “Howard [Dean] was not allowed to run for president anymore because he screamed a little bit too loud once,” Stewart said.

He then suggested he could go through history and point out all of the other less strange things candidates have done that led to their disqualification for president— as he has before . But perhaps instead, Stewart said, “For the next 40 to 50 minutes, I will play Ave Maria and just sway slowly.”
