Trump Says He ‘Took a Bullet for Democracy’ at Michigan Campaign Speech
Sporting a new, flesh-colored ear bandage at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday night following the failed attempt on his life last week, Donald Trump claimed, “I took a bullet for democracy.”The former president also broke the promise he made in his convention speech to never talk about the shooting again because he said it was “too painful” for him to recount.“I begin this evening with a very special thanks to Americans nationwide including all of you here today for your extraordinary outpouring of love and support in the wake of the horrific last Saturday event,” Trump began.“And...

Laura Loomer, a white nationalist and Donald Trump’s one-time favored pick for a campaign role, sparked outrage on social media by metaphorically dancing on a Black Congresswoman’s grave.Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), a progressive voice in Congress who fought for civil and women’s rights, died Friday evening at 74, shortly after she announced she was battling pancreatic cancer.“Even on her death bed, this ghetto bitch couldn’t keep President Trump’s name out of her disgusting mouth,” the conservative TV host wrote in a series of posts on X. Team USA Men’s Basketball in Nail-Biting Win Against South Sudan
Team USA men’s basketball made a major comeback in the team’s final game before the 2024 Paris Olympic Games against South Sudan on Saturday. Underdog South Sudan, whose roster includes only one current NBA player, led the game by 16 points until Team USA closed the gap, winning by one point. LeBron James scored the game winning point, making a layup with eight seconds left, racking up 23 points in total. Saturday’s game was tougher than expected for Team USA, having come off of a string of pre-Olympic showcase wins. Last week, the team beat Serbia and Australia. They will face off against South Sudan for a second time in two-weeks at the Group C games in Lille, France. South Sudanese-American player Wenyen Gabriel said he was “happy” to represent his country “with pride...and put up a good fight and show them the potential of our country.”Wenyen Gabriel with the proudest of words after South Sudan’s first-ever game against USA Basketball 🇸🇸 pic.twitter.com/NJYze9et4h— Cesare Milanti (@cesaremilanti) July 20, 2024 Read it at USA TodayRead more at The Daily Beast.
J.D. Vance Wastes No Time Calling Out Kamala Harris at Trump Rally
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) wasted no time when taking to the podium at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, immediately taking jabs at Vice President Kamala Harris. The Trump campaign rally is the first joint event with his recent vice presidential pick and the first campaign rally since the assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania last weekend.“What a cool thing it was to be asked by President Trump to serve as his running mate and to get out there on the campaign trail, but there’s some bad news, actually,” Vance said as he greeted supporters.“The Vice...
Big Dem Donors Reportedly Withholding Money Until Biden Drops Out
Some big Democratic donors reportedly want Joe Biden off the 2024 presidential ticket so badly that they are refusing to donate more money until he leaves. They even have a slogan: “No more dough until no more Joe,” reported The Washington Post. In a bid to establish a viable replacement for Biden, donors have paid for new polling and funneled money to officials that would make public calls for the sitting president to bow out of the race. However, in the end, the decision rests solely on Biden’s shoulders, said Jeff Weaver, a former political strategist for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns. “There is not a practical way to prevent him from being the nominee if he wants to be the nominee,” said Weaver. “If he were to demur, then the question becomes: What’s the process after that? Is it a coronation of Kamala Harris, which a lot of people are making the case for, or do we have some sort of truncated process?”Read it at The Washington PostRead more at The Daily Beast.
The Clintons Are Urging Donors to Keep Cash Flowing to Biden: CNN
The Clintons are privately encouraging high-dollar democratic donors to keep the cash spigot open while Biden is the presumptive nominee, according to a report by CNN. A source close to the situation who spoke to CNN said former President Bill Clinton and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, have chosen to be “deferential to Biden’s decision,” Another source added that they are generally “deferential to the process,” while declining to tell CNN if the couple have a personal preference on whether Biden should stay or go. Donors are befuddled by the Biden campaign, with one major donor telling CNN, “I don’t know how you campaign with a broadening electoral map without money. I don’t know what they’re doing. I don’t know.” The source added: “I’ve never seen this strategy where you think you can win without money.” High-dollar fundraisers have reportedly come to a screeching halt, with grassroots fundraising driving the campaign, according to CNN. Trump’s ‘Doctor’ Reveals the Size of His Ear Wound
Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), who was a White House physician during the Trump administration, released a statement on X, Saturday saying that the former president is “doing well.” “I have been with President Trump since [July 13], and I have evaluated and treated his wound daily,” Jackson wrote. “The bullet passed, coming less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head, and struck the top of his right ear. The bullet track produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear,” the doctor explained further. Jackson added that he is “extremely thankful [Trump’s] life was spared. It is an absolute miracle he wasn’t killed.” Trump’s official medical report has still not been released. Trump Shooter Crooks Wasn’t on Rifle Team or Bullied, According to School
Bethel Park High School officials have contradicted reports that Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks was bullied, threatening, and a member of the school’s rifle team. In updated statements posted Saturday, officials said they have “no record” of Crooks ever trying out or being dismissed from the rifle team due to character or performance concerns, as previously reported. “It is possible that Crooks informally attended a practice, took a shot, and never returned,” the school said in its statement. However, the school added that they “don’t have any record of that happening.” A statement also dispelled reports that Crooks made threats...
Israel Responds to Houthi Attack by Striking Yemen
The Israeli Air Force struck Hodeidah Port in Yemen on Saturday, following a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv on Thursday, as reported by CNN. Israeli jets bombed the oil facilities in the Hodeidah Port, injuring 80 people, according to the Yemeni Ministry of Health. Israeli officials told CNN the port was a military target, as Iran supplies the Houthis with weapons through the port. Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdelsalam described the attack as “brutal Israeli aggression against Yemen” with the purpose of pressuring “Yemen to stop supporting Gaza, which is a dream that will not come true,” according to Al Jazeera. General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Houthi military, vowed the Houthis would retaliate in kind by striking “vital targets” in Israel. A Houthi drone attack struck the U.S. consulate in Tel Aviv on Thursday night, killing one and injuring 10. Since October 2023, the Houthis have attacked commercial vessels flowing in and out of the Red Sea in retaliation to Israel’s war in Gaza. U.S. intelligence also indicates that Russia is considering sending anti-ship missiles to the Houthi, according to the Wall Street Journal.Read it at CNNRead more at The Daily Beast.

COVID-19 Won’t Make President Joe Biden Quit After Doctor Says He’s Improving
Americans waiting for President Joe Biden to drop out after he contracted COVID-19 mere hours after he said only a “medical condition” would make him quit are going to have to wait a little longer.Biden’s physician Kevin C. O’Connor wrote in a memo to the White House on Saturday that the president’s conditions are improving steadily and that he “continues to perform all of his presidential duties.” Connor added that Biden is now on his sixth dose of Paxlovid, a prescription treatment for “adults who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization,” according to the drug’s official website. The president’s diagnosis forced him to ditch several scheduled campaign events this week, but his campaign insists he’ll be back on the trail next Monday.Biden poked fun at his positive test on Wednesday, starting a thread on X that read, “I’m Sick… of Elon Musk and his rich buddies trying to buy this election,” referencing Musk’s pledge to send $45 million per month to a Trump-affiliated Super PAC. ‘Don’t Be The Villain, Disney’: Four Unions Vote To Strike Over Low Wages
The rhythmic hum of rollercoasters and children’s laughter might come to a screeching halt after 99 percent of four Disneyland unions voted to authorize a strike on Friday. The unions, representing almost 14,000 Disney “cast members” at the California resort chain, are struggling to negotiate a new contract that would increase wages after their old one expired on June 16. The strike authorization vote doesn’t guarantee the workers will walk off the job, but it does give them permission to do so without being disciplined or fired once a strike is called. “We have given the company more than enough time to do the right thing,” The Disney Workers Rising bargaining committee wrote on X. The group added that if Disney didn’t agree to the negotiated contract when talks resume Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23, the unions would “move forward with the actions we need to take and that you have overwhelmingly voiced your support for.”Read it at The GuardianRead more at The Daily Beast.
J.D. Vance Calls on Biden to End Campaign and Resign Now
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) told followers in an X post on Saturday that he thinks President Joe Biden should resign if he drops out of the race. “Everyone calling on Joe Biden to *stop running* without also calling on him to resign the presidency is engaged in an absurd level of cynicism,” Vance wrote. “If you can’t run, you can’t serve.”“He should resign now,” he concluded. In another post from Friday, Vance also wrote, “if Joe Biden doesn’t have the cognitive function to run for re-election, then he certainly doesn’t have the cognitive function to remain as Commander-In-Chief.”Vance has previously said...
Montana Man Kills Grizzly Bear After Being Attacked While Picking Huckleberries
A 72-year-old Montana man shot and killed a female grizzly bear on Friday after being ambushed. The man was out picking huckleberries in Flathead National Forest when the bear charged him, leaving him badly injured, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks authorities who spoke to the Associated Press. The attack left the man hospitalized and any of the bear’s potential cubs, motherless. The bear was reportedly protecting its cubs when it charged, according to spokesperson Dillon Tabish. The man then shot the bear with his handgun, killing her. Authorities are now on the search for any potential cubs, but their outlook is grim. “Depending on the age, we might leave them in the wild because they have a better chance of survival, rather than have to euthanize them,” Tabish said. He added there are few facilities with the capability of rehabilitating cubs.Read it at Associated PressRead more at The Daily Beast.
NASA Curiosity Rover Discovers Rock Containing One Building Block of Life on Mars
NASA’s Curiosity rover discovered rocks made of pure sulfur on Mars, one of the six elemental building blocks of life, in May, according to CNN. Curiosity project scientist, Ashwin Vasavada, told CNN the discovery was “mind-blowing.” “I think it’s the strangest find of the whole mission and the most unexpected,” he added. The team reportedly saw white rocks during their decade-long summit of Mount Sharp, and began moving toward them. The detour took the rover over a rock, which broke under the rover’s 1-ton weight, revealing shiny green and yellow crystals, never seen on Mars. “I have to say, there’s a lot of luck involved here. Not every rock has something interesting inside,” Vasavada said of the discovery. Using instruments in the rover, researchers were able to determine the rock contained pure sulfur. NASA’s previous rover, Spirit, which rolled around the red planet from 2004 to 2011, also made an accidental discovery when a wheel broke and the team began reversing the rover, revealing the trail of pure silica on the ground. The team, inspired their Spirit discovery, turned the rover around after breaking the rock to discover the sulfur.Read it at CNNRead more at The Daily Beast.
Buttigieg Hopes MAGA Mob Won’t Come for Vance Like Pence
Pete Buttigieg gave his best wishes to J.D. Vance during a Friday appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, reminding the audience why Trump didn’t choose Pence this time around.“[Pence] got four glorious years, I guess, as vice president,” Buttigieg sarcastically told Maher. “And it ended on the west front of the Capitol with Trump supporters proposing that he be hanged for using the one shred of integrity he still had to stand up to an attempt to overthrow the government.”Buttigieg went on, “Maybe not as a politician but as a human being, what I’ll say is: I hope things...
Ex-UK Prime Minister Liz Truss Shilling for Trump, Liberty Bell Shower Heads at RNC
The United Kingdom’s former Prime Minister Liz Truss was spotted at a Republican National Convention breakfast shilling for former president Donald Trump in a room full of Pennsylvania delegates. Truss confessed that she had never been to the state before. But, she said, “I do have in my possession a Liberty Bell shower head,” explaining that it was an exact replica of the shower head that is in President Reagan’s California ranch. “I will be proudly installing this shower head as a symbol of liberty and democracy, and of course Pennsylvania,” said Truss. She added, “You all know why you’re so important—which is, this is a crucial state in order for President Trump to be reinstalled into the White House.” On social media, the moment was reminiscent of Truss’ speech about pork markets and cheese when she was the U.K.’s Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. “Move over, pork markets. You’ve finally been eclipsed,” wrote a social media commentator who posted a clip of Truss at the RNC.Read it at WFMZ TVRead more at The Daily Beast.
