Deconstructing the 2024 Met Gala’s most stunning moments
The carpet was dappled with green, and many of the gowns followed suit as celebs and socialites convened for the “Super Bowl of Fashion” on the first Monday of May, better known as the 2024 Met Gala. Themed around the short story “The Garden of Time” — itself an interpretation of the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit which opened Monday at The Met’s Costume Institute, the code invited guests to riff on not only the beauty of the natural world but also its ephemeral nature, which many attendees addressed with details that evoked decay. The same ethos applied to many of the archival pieces that appeared on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night, reminding us that while fashion may be everchanging, the art of creation remains timeless.

LIVE: What are Black celebs wearing to the 2024 Met Gala?
If you’re an avowed lover of fashion, there’s likely one space you’re watching every first Monday of May: the grand staircase of the Met Gala. Staged each year on the famed steps of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 56-year-old event, which, according to CBS News, launched in 1948 as “a midnight supper club known as The Costume Institute Benefit” entered its current iteration as an annual themed gala in 1973. Since that time, the annual showcase has aligned with showstopping exhibitions — and equally memorable fashion moments.
