THEODORE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — This is the busiest time for local fireworks stores, as July 4 is just around the corner. One store in particular, Joe’s Fireworks in Theodore, is experiencing the holiday rush.

Manager and Owner of Joe’s Fireworks, Tammy Desport, said the store opened June 24. As the Fourth of July gets closer, she says, more last-minute shoppers come in.

“Normally picks up the third and fourth is ours, our two busiest days. Everybody waits to the last minute, people getting off work,” said Desport.

Customers coming in are planning everything from small family gatherings to big community events.

Jordan Smith has been a loyal customer of Joe’s Fireworks for years now. He and other members of The Homestead Mobile have been getting prepared for a firework show after service Friday.

“We’ve always bought from Joe’s fireworks. I’ve known him for four years and his family has been awesome.” Smith said. “And so, I called Joe and told him I want to do something big. And so, he got it set up perfect.”

The most popular fireworks this year, according to Desport, are the artillery shells. Prices range from $34.95 for a small box to $350 for an 84-shell large box.

Most importantly this holiday season, Joe’s wants to inform those about firework safety when buying certain ones.

“We love it when families come in and bring their kids so we can kind of go over on what’s safe for kids to be around, what’s not safe,” said Desport. “Reiterate that definitely need a lot of supervision no matter what they’re doing, whether it be a sparkler or a smoke bomb, you still need adult supervision because anything can happen.”
