Royal Caribbean's Silversea holding its own world cruise

Royal Caribbean's 9-month Ultimate World Cruise just ended with Serenade of the Seas returning to Miami on Sept. 10. The cruise made headlines, mostly for good reasons, but there was a lot of drama onboard for the roughly 800 passengers who stayed on the entire voyage, not just segments of it.

There were multiple people on the ship who consider themselves influencers and seemingly no aspect of the trip managed to stay off social media. There was a death, itinerary changes, some marital discord, and all sorts of drama.

That was to be expected when you put people in close quarters for that long coupled with unlimited alcohol. The Ultimate World Cruise moved from Florida through South America, Antarctica, China, Madagascar, and about 60 total countries.

Royal Caribbean executives have promised a second Ultimate World Cruise, but it has not set a date and CEO Michael Bayley did point out the logistical challenge a cruise of this scale entails.

Another Royal Caribbean brand, Silversea, will be offering its own world cruise and it can be booked now.

Silversea focuses on World Heritage sites

While Serenade of the Seas is a small ship by Royal Caribbean standards, it's still large enough to be limited to where it can dock and sail. It Can carry about 2,400 passengers while Silverseas's Silver Dawn, which will be used to the world cruise, has a capacity of 596.

The cruise line shared details of its take on a world cruise.

"Silversea, the leading ultra-luxury and expedition cruise travel brand, has opened general sales on its World Cruise 2027, The Three Oceans. Set to call in 80 destinations – more destinations than any voyage in the company’s history – the 149-day sailing will connect 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 35 countries," Silversea posted on its website.

The cruise line's destinations team will also be working on unique experiences for the cruisers.

"Additional opportunities to meaningfully connect with the local culture will abound, with exclusive events crafted by Silversea’s destination experts, dozens of S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) culinary experiences, various seasonal enrichments, and much more," it added

Silver Dawn will depart Los Angeles on January 8 and arrive in Copenhagen on June 7, 2027, "unlocking the unique cultures, histories, and ideas of the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans for guests," the cruise line shared.

The cruise will also visit 20 new destinations that Silversea has never called on before.
