Don’t let anyone say crime doesn’t pay, because it’s clearly enough to drive a program to the top of the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report . “The Penguin,” the Max gangster series about DC Comics’ bird-like crime boss (and famous Batman nemesis), remains at No. 1 for the second consecutive week .

It’s followed by a show about horrific real-world crime , “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” This Netflix series uses actors to tell the infamous story of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents. It is the second season of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” series, which focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in its first season.

Crime may pay when it comes to viewership, but a little anxiety doesn’t hurt either. “Inside Out 2,” the highest-grossing movie of 2024, comes in third this week after it was added to Disney+ on Sept. 25. Even after making more than half a billion dollars at the box office, the anxiety-ridden look inside a teenager’s brain still drew 1.7 million households over the first five days it was available to stream.

At No. 4 is “Nobody Wants This,” a romantic comedy series from Netflix that is taking social media by storm and stars a sex podcaster (Kristen Bell) who falls for a rabbi (Adam Brody). That’s followed by “Tulsa King,” which remains at No. 5 for the second week in a row. Audiences were primed for the Paramount+ series thanks to CBS airing Season 1 on linear TV in the run-up to Season 2’s streaming debut.

“The Perfect Couple” on Netflix continues to draw buzz (and viewers). It slides from No. 3 to No. 6 this week, but remains on the chart for the fourth consecutive week. “Mr. McMahon,” also on Netflix, is No. 4 this week. The docuseries looks at the life of Vince McMahon, the accused sexual trafficker who made billions of dollars by bringing professional wrestling into mainstream entertainment.

The latest big-screen appearance by everyone’s favorite comic strip cat, “The Garfield Movie,” comes in at No. 8 this week after it was added to the Netflix library. Amazon Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” continues to stay on the chart, albeit slowly slipping down, to come in at No. 9 this week. It’s followed by “Jailbreak: Love on the Run,” a documentary about a corrections worker who falls in love with a suspected murderer – and then helps him escape.

On the linear side, the calendar has turned to fall, which means it’s officially “The Voice” season. The singing competition sits atop the most-watched programs chart after it began its Season 26 on Sept. 23.

Long-running shows are a theme for the rest of this week’s chart. “Dancing with the Stars,” in Season 33, comes in second. “America’s Got Talent” announced the winners of Season 19 across two episodes that aired on Sept. 24, putting it in No. 3 and No. 6 this week.

Meanwhile, the premiere of Season 10 of “Chicago Med” comes in at No. 4, while its sister show, “Chicago Fire,” lands at No. 8 with the kickoff to Season 13.

The first episode of the 50th season of “Saturday Night Live”  lands at No. 5 as it sees the highest viewership of a premiere in the last four years (benefitting from an election year, as is usually the case). Lastly, two episodes of “Wheel of Fortune” (Season 42) come in at No. 9 and No. 10.

The notable standout this week is the “2024 People’s Country Music Awards.” The live broadcast from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville comes in No. 7 this week. This was only the second annual ceremony, so the show has a ways to go to catch up with its long-running competition on the linear chart.

The Wrap Report provides an exclusive first look at the most watched movies and TV series from the past week across both streaming and linear television sourced from viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households, balanced to the U.S. Census.
