Curtis was born April 23, 1942, in Thief River Falls, to Hagbert and Anna (Stone) Halvorson. He was raised in Hegland Township where he attended country school through 8th grade before attending high school in Warren, through the 10th grade. He then worked for area farmers as a farm hand and mechanic and then at Land O’Lakes feed company until he was injured. Once he had healed, a few years later, he decided to work for himself, offering a mechanic service to area farmers and doing other mechanic work from his home. He was known to be able to fix almost anything and had a love for motorcycles. On July 12, 1976, he was united in marriage to Pam Erlenmeyer in Sisseton, SD. To this union, James, Jessica and Joseph were born. The couple made their home in Hegland Township where they farmed with Curtis’ brother, Kenneth. They moved to Viking in 1984 and into Thief River Falls in 2014. Curtis and Pam had a date every Tuesday with lunch at the Black Cat and bingo at the Heritage Center. He never ordered anything other than walleye fingers and soon decided that they needed a Friday lunch date as well to get another fix. He played games of cards and Yatzee with his wife every morning and always had a deck of cards ready to go in case company showed up. He shared many hobbies with his son, Joey. Together they enjoyed hunting and trapping as well as collecting coins and guns. There wasn’t a gun show that went by without Curtis and Joey having a table or two set up where they were likely to buy more than they sold. Time with his family was Curtis’ most cherished time. Whether it was a Thursday night dinner or a big holiday meal; from sitting in the stands at a football game or dance show, to a salon chair, getting a haircut from Jessie, he enjoyed every second spent with his kids, grandchildren and extended family. Curtis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pam Halvorson of Thief River Falls; children, Jessica (George) Cruz of Viking, and Joseph (Trudy Erickson) Halvorson of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, James Johnson, George Cruz Jr., Nora Veselka, Shay Halvorson and Ruby Halvorson; great-granddaughter Alani Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, and son, James; siblings, Chester Halvorson, Elmer (Allis) Halvorson, Kenneth Halvorson, Clarice (Russell) Floberg; nephew, Duane Floberg; father- and mother-in-law, Robert Erlenmeyer and Doris Swenson. Visitation for Curtis was held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Service with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. Visitation was also held one hour prior to the service on Monday. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Ollie Urdahl officiating. Burial took place at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township, Newfolden. Lunch and fellowship was held at the Heritage Center in Thief River Falls, following the graveside service.
