President Joe Biden has approved a disaster declaration and funding for supplemental recovery efforts in certain areas of Washington.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that sixteen counties in Washington, including Okanogan and Ferry, will be receiving federal funding to assist with emergency repairs and replacements of damaged facilities.

The disaster declaration is in response to severe winter storms, flooding, winds, mudslides, and landslides that occurred on January 5, 2024. The funding will also support statewide hazard mitigation efforts on a cost-sharing basis. If requested by the state and approved by FEMA, additional areas may be added to receive funding later on.

    Impacts of the Disaster

The approval of the disaster declaration and funding will provide much-needed assistance to the affected counties in Washington. With the funds allocated for emergency repairs and replacements, communities can begin the process of recovery and rebuilding after the devastating natural disasters that struck earlier in the year.

    Response and Recovery Efforts

The declaring of a disaster and the subsequent funding approval showcase the commitment of the government to support and assist communities in times of crisis.

By providing financial resources for repairs and mitigation efforts, Washington can work towards rebuilding stronger and more resilient infrastructures to withstand future disasters.
