Worcester School Committee’s “Keep Failing” Caucus
WORCESTER – A Worcester School Committee meeting on Thursday, June 20, that ran nearly six hours, ended with the committee approving a $485 million budget for the 2025 fiscal year. School committee members approved the budget by a 6-3 vote. The fiscal year starts on July 1, 2024, and ends June 30, 2025.
Worcester Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges
WORCESTER – A local man pleaded guilty in federal court to drug distribution charges, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Luis Torres, 47, of Worcester, pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and one count of use of a communication facility to facilitate a drug felony.
Worcester Housing Authority Awarded AARP Grant
WORCESTER – The Worcester Housing Authority (WHA) announced Thursday it received a 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant award for $20,101. AARP issued 343 awards from 3,350 applicants. WHA received one of nine awards in Massachusetts. It is also the only award to a housing authority in the state and just one of four across the country to receive an award from the program.
Worcester Spray Parks Now Open, Pool, Beaches, Open July 1
WORCESTER – The City of Worcester spray parks at East Park, at 180 Shrewsbury St., and Greenwood Park, at 14 Forsberg Street are now open.
