Worcester Board of Health Supports Safe Injection Pilot Site
WORCESTER – The Board of Health voted unanimously to support a pilot of an overdose prevention center (OPC) in Worcester during its meeting on Monday, March 4. For a pilot to launch, the state legislature must vote to change the state law, which currently prohibits overdose prevention centers, which are also known as safe injection sites or safe consumption centers. Federal law also prohibits the sites, but the federal government has deferred to states to make their own decisions.

Fire Damages Historic Estate with Painful Past in Whitinsville
WHITINSVILLE – A five-alarm fire early Friday morning caused significant damage to a historic property in Whitinsville. Fire broke through the roof of the Oakhurst Manor, at 120 Hill St., and damaged the upper floors of the building. The current property owners reported that no one was injured in the fire. The extent of the damage is not yet clear.
Worcester Man Sentenced for Filing False Tax Returns for Clients
WORCESTER – A local man received a federal prison sentence today for filing false tax returns that resulted in over substantial losses to the IRS. According to federal prosecutors, U.S. District Court Judge Margaret Guzman sentenced Kwasi Kwarteng, 51, of Worcester, to one year and one day in prison, and one year of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service in the amount of $346,186 and a special assessment of $1,300.

UPDATE: Lake Quinsigamond Recreational Restrictions Lifted
WORCESTER – The City of Worcester announced a sewer overflow near 65 Lake Ave on Tuesday, Feb. 20, which may cause increased E. Coli levels around the area of contamination. Residents are advised to use the area at Lake Quinsigamond with caution and not to use the lake for ice fishing until the levels return to normal. The lake will be tested daily to determine when levels support recreational use.
All Bravehearts Tickets Include All-You-Can-Eat this Season
WORCESTER – In 2024, a ticket to the Worcester Bravehearts will include a ticket to the game, unlimited concessions, soft drinks, and parking. The Bravehearts announced that during their 2024 season, all tickets will be $20 and feature an all-you-can-eat option for every ticket holder.
