Minor Detained by Witness after Main Street Break In
WORCESTER – Police responded to reports of a break-in on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Habibi Smokeshop at 650 Main St., leading to the arrest of a minor on several charges. Lane Closed on Cambridge Street through Mid-December
WORCESTER – The City of Worcester announced on Monday that rehabilitation of the Cambridge Street sewer interceptor is set to resume the same day, on Monday, Nov. 27. The work is located on Cambridge St. between Douglas St. and Dorrance St. Crews will be working daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the rehabilitation is expected to take three weeks. During this time, one lane of traffic will remain open.

MIAA Admits Worcester Schools Rugby Team Into Division 2
WORCESTER – The Worcester Public Schools’ (WPS) rugby team, the WPS Wildcats, has been granted varsity status and Division 2 classification by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). The Wildcats, based at Burncoat High School, are open to students of any gender from any WPS high school and do not require rugby experience.
Community Health Report Show Economic Impact on Wellness
WORCESTER – The 2024 Greater Worcester Community Health Assessment was released earlier this month, which included findings gathered over 32 discussions with 72 participants over three months conducted by the Coalition for a Healthy Greater Worcester (CHGW). Of those 72 participants, 54 (75%) were were part of the Health Equity Population (HEP) Focus Groups, and 18 (25%) were part of the Institutional Leader (IL) conversations.
Leicester Man Arrested in Thanksgiving Day Shooting
WORCESTER – A local man was arrested in Friday, Nov. 24, in connection with the death of a woman in Worcester a day before, on Thanksgiving Day. Police responded to Angie’s Body Work Spa on Pleasant Street at around 11:30 AM in response to a report of a woman in a possible medical crisis. The Worcester Police Department says that Upon arrival at the scene, a male bystander led officers to an unconscious woman. Police provided medical aid but the woman was declared dead by Worcester EMS.
Worcester Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Drugs, Fraud
WORCESTER – A local man received a sentence in federal court in Worcester on Wednesday of nearly 11 years in prison for drug and fraud charges. Augustus “Bobo” Kormah, 33, of Worcester, received a sentence of 131 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his involvement in cocaine distribution and committing wire fraud related to COVID-19 relief programs. Kormah is also required to pay restitution and forfeiture totaling $258,705. He pleaded guilty in June 2023 to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and two counts of wire fraud.

Local Psychiatrist Convicted for Illegal Prescribing
WORCESTER – A local psychiatrist has been found guilty by a federal jury of illegally prescribing controlled substances. Mohamad Och, 67, was convicted of three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance after an 11 day trial. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2024. Och was initially arrested in July 2021.
Former State Senator Dean Tran Indicted on Federal Charges
BOSTON – A former Massachusetts State Senator has been indicted for the third time since July, this time on federal charges. Dean Tran, 48, of Fitchburg, was arrested today on charges of wire fraud and filing false tax returns, as per the 28 count indictment in federal court in Boston.
