WORCESTER – The Worcester Public Library (WPL) has launched a new promotion in search of a golden ticket. Starting on April 10, each of the WPL book vending machines will have one special book that includes a golden ticket within the cover. Each ticket enables the individual who discovered it to select from prizes that include a Google Chromebook, a Nintendo Switch Lite, a dinner and a movie gift pack, or a $150 gift card to the grocery store of your choice.

Florida Man Arrested on Firearms Charges in Auburn
AUBURN – Police arrested a Florida man inside an unoccupied commercial building on firearm and other charges. An alarm call brought police to the building at around 6:20 PM on Monday, April 8. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unlocked door and searched the building. Inside, they found what they believe appeared to be the belongings of a homeless person, but did not located a person.

Worcester Man Arrested for Pointing Firearm at Police
WORCESTER – A local man was arrested on Sunday for pointing a firearm at police and fleeing in a vehicle. Two Worcester Police officers were on patrol near Aetna Street on Sunday. At around 12:45 AM, the officers were travelling behind a Ford Explorer. The driver accelerated on Blanche Street to what the officers estimated was 50 miles-per-hour.
Police Seek Help in Worcester Shooting Investigation
WORCESTER – The Worcester Police Department is asking for help from the public in its investigation of a shooting on Sunday, April 7. Officers were dispatched to Clarkson Street shortly after 9 PM in response to reports of gunshots. While in transit to the scene, the department received information that indicated possible victims.

WORCESTER – The City of Worcester provided updated status on both street resurfacing and sidwalk repair projects to Worcester City Council for its meeting on Tuesday. The report identifies nearly 180 street resurfacing projects selected from 2019 to present. There are currently 90 projects pending, with 37 of those already started, and 34 are at least 40 percent completed. Of the 90 projects pending, 25 are listed as “held pending utility upgrades.” There are 13 resurfacing projects scheduled for fiscal year 2024, which ends June 30.

Man Facing Gun Charges Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges
WORCESTER – A local man previously charged with possession of a machinegun pleaded guilty to federal drug charges on Wednesday. Jose Rivera, 24, of Worcester, pleaded guilty to possession of a machinegun, receipt of a firearm by a person under indictment for a felony, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The judge in the case set sentencing for June 28.
Worcester Man Riding Motorcycle on Sidewalk Arrested for Drugs
WORCESTER – A man stopped for operating a motorcycle on a sidewalk was arrested Thursday morning and faces multiple drug and motor vehicle charges. According to the Worcester Police Department, officers saw Joseph Baez, 46, of Worcester, on an Oread Street sidewalk headed toward Beacon Street, and engaged in a traffic stop at around 9:15 AM. While talking with Baez, officers noticed Baez’s fanny pack open with hypodermic needles inside. They removed the fanny pack.
