Worcester Single-Family Home Sales Down, Prices Up in 2023
WORCESTER – Single-family home sales in Worcester dropped by nearly a quarter in 2023, while the median sale price increased. Worcester homeowners sold 264 homes in 2023, a 24.4 percent drop from the 349 sold in 2022, according to information published by the Warren Group, a Peabody based real estate analytics company founded in 1872. The median sale price of homes sold in 2023 was $264,750, a 17.7 percent increase from 2022. In December alone, the median sale price was $275,000, with 19 homes sold in the city, one more than December 2022.

Man Faces Drug Charges after Falling Asleep in Intersection
At around 1:40 AM on Friday, a Worcester Police officer on patrol near Walpole Street saw a BMW stopped in the middle of the intersection of Walpole and Southbridge St. The officer saw another vehicle behind the BMW, which was not moving. The officer activated his air horn in an attempt to alert the driver, then activated his overhead lights and initiated a traffic stop.

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issued a 4-3 ruling on Thursday that defines a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for anyone under the age of 21 years old at the time the crime was committed as “cruel and unusual punishment.” Article 26 of the Massachusetts Declaration of Rights, the state constitution, and the Eight Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits government from carrying out cruel and unusual punishment.

Leader of Drug Trafficking Org. Sentenced in Worcester
WORCESTER – The 18th and final defendant of a Fitchburg-based drug trafficking organization was sentenced in federal court in Worcester on Thursday. Pedro Baez, 54, who prosecutors say was the leader of a Fitchburg-based drug trafficking organization (DTO), received a sentence of 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release. Baez pleaded guilty in February 2021 to charges related to the trafficking of several drugs, including heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine.
