Personalizing Your Space with Unique Wall Art and Accent Ideas

Got blank and boring walls? Here’s how to personalize your space with unique wall art and accent ideas!

The place we live in and the place that feels like home; have you ever wondered where they differ?

The things that we fill the place with.

It’s the little personalizations that we find comfort in. Especially nods to our story—and reminders of the people we love the most.

And, let’s face it. We’ve all been there. A (finally) furnished home with those daunting bare walls and that lack of personality.

The good news? Personalizing your space may sound hard, but it’s not impossible! All you need is a little direction—and that’s what we’re here today. Keep reading to learn all about personalizing your space with unique wall art and accent ideas.

    1. Create a Textured Wall

If a tropical vacation is your vibe, we know just what you need to dress up those walls: a wall-mounted setting of baskets. Make sure the baskets are narrow in height and different in size. This maintains visual interest—all while adding that boho vibe and making the ambiance inviting.

    2. Add an Accent Wall

If you think accent walls are a thing of the past, you’re mistaken there. Accent walls remain to be one of the top ways to add personality to your space. For one wall in your room, consider a bold wallpaper (think navy blue geometric patterns). Alternatively, you can go for a warmer effect with a slat wall. Or perhaps make a wall the focal point with an assortment of photos? See more below.

    Consider a Picture Wall

One of our favorite ways to personalize your space. Creating a picture wall! The ideal way to go about this would be:

    • Put your favorite photos (can be your own photos, abstract art, quotes, etc.) into frames; we’d suggest using differently-sized frames for visual interest.
    • Measure the amount of space you want your picture wall to fill.
    • Tape off a box of that size on your floor.
    • Lay out all your pieces within that area—taking inspiration from different gallery wall layouts. You can play around with the placement for as long as you like—and until you’re fully satisfied.

When mounting onto the wall, you want to keep a distance of at least 3 inches between the frames. This keeps the setting from feeling too crowded.

No frames? No problem. You can also create a mosaic of your photos in print and skip the frames. Use a ruler to space out your prints—and some washi tape (or poster tape) to adhere the prints to the wall safely.

    3. Use Macrame

The macrame trend is here to stay for good! Its weaving adds texture to even the most blank spaces. There are plenty of options to choose from in the market. But if you’re feeling crafty, why not try your hand at making your own wall hanging?

    4. Install Some Shelving

Install floating shelves (here’s how to do it yourself) and display hardcover books, small artifacts, plants, and other bits and pieces. This adds a personal touch, sure, but it’s also one of the smartest ways to utilize vertical space and add to the existing storage.

    5. Consider LED Neon Sign Art

Nothing says personalized quite like a custom neon sign. “My Happy Place” as your mantra or “But First, Coffee... then Shenanigans” as an inside joke—the possibilities are endless when looking for what to display. You can also go beyond. You know, a symbol that energizes you every time you see it.

    6. Add a Hint of Vintage

Both modern and classic interiors would love a hint of vintage. Case in point: An antique repurposed mirror. This tells its own story—and takes you back into history for a bit. Think an ornate baroque mirror or a quirky Art Deco piece. Plus, you’re always getting the advantage of opening up your space; mirrors reflect light and add to the brightness level of your interior.

    7. Put Together a Song Lyric Wall

Ever find yourself jamming to your favorite tune time and again? Or perhaps a song that can put you in the mood? You know, like the chorus of your wedding song or lyrics from a road trip anthem. Have those printed in a custom font (or, better yet, hand-painted onto a large canvas). You can use sheet music in the background for some extra flair.

    8. Create a 3D Wall Mural of Your Favorite Destination

Beach lovers can bring their favorite spot to their walls by using actual seashells and driftwood over textured paint (this mimics real sand). If you’re a city lover, recreate the architecture of your favorite urban skyline. All you’ll need is some faux brick panels to mimic buildings and metallic paint shades to paint the skyline. And, of course, some rolled-up sleeves for a good DIY. You can also add some drama by using LED backlighting to highlight the buildings.

    Final Words

That’s a wrap on our ideas—but we’d like to reiterate, your home is your place to shine. And so, with these ideas, we hope we nurtured your creativity to customize your space… to your taste 🤍
