Thal Golden Spices Inc of Hayward, California announced a recall of 640 packs of "Bikano Moong Dal 350g" due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The recall, issued on August 4, 2024, affects products distributed through retail stores in California.

The affected product is "Bikano Moong Dal Plain," sold in 350g packs with a "Best Used By" date of June 25, 2025, located on the bottom back side of the packaging.

While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA says Salmonella can cause serious and "sometimes fatal" infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

The contamination issue arose when Thal Golden Spices Inc. discovered an oversight in their distribution process. The product was released without proper lab results, a discrepancy identified during an FDA inspection. The company is currently addressing the issue to ensure compliance and rectify the error.

Consumers who purchased the affected Bikano Moong Dal are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For more information, contact Thal Golden Spices Inc. at 510-429-1797. Customer service hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For further details, visit the FDA's recall page or contact the company's customer service.
