Placerville, CA, often draws visitors for its scenic beauty and historic charm. But for those planning a trip in November, especially around Veterans Day weekend, there are mixed opinions on whether it’s the best time to visit. A recent online conversation among locals offers some insights.

    Weather in November

Most locals agree that snowfall in Placerville is unlikely in November. While it’s located at the base of the Sierra Nevada, snowfall usually occurs at higher elevations.

"Snow rarely hits Placerville in November," one commenter noted, adding that cool temperatures and rain are more common. Another resident, who lives just outside of town at about 2,300 feet, says snow generally starts in January, not November.

    Apple Hill and Outdoor Activities

November may be past peak season for some local attractions, like the popular Apple Hill area. However, visitors can still enjoy the tail end of the harvest season.

"You’ll be after the main Apple Hill season but also after the associated traffic," one person shared, pointing out that while it might be quieter, many places remain open. Additionally, outdoor patios in the area often provide heaters, making outdoor dining and socializing possible despite cooler weather.

    What to Expect

Although snow may not be a concern, visitors should prepare for chilly and possibly rainy conditions. Local wineries, especially in nearby Somerset, are also a popular draw during this time.

I have been a resident of the area since 1988 and have to agree with other locals that we may have rain but generally no snow till late December or January. Somerset winery's are fantastic and on a scenic trail route through the area. They produce many fine wines and there are many along the main road. You'll find a few B&Bs tucked along the road. Historic Main Street in Placerville has something for everyone.
