THOMPSON, Conn. (WPRI) — A Connecticut man is facing multiple charges due to trespassing, breaking into a home, and being found with drugs on Thursday morning, according to police.

Connecticut State Police (CSP) responded to a home on Brandy Hill Road in Thompson, Connecticut, at around 11:40 a.m. after receiving reports of a man crossing through the backyards of private residences.

Upon arrival, troopers were also informed that the man reportedly ran from neighbors and may have entered a home through a basement window.

Following a K-9 search, a man later identified as 36-year-old Christopher George Sargent was located hiding in a small room behind a washing machine in the basement, according to CSP. Police said he had crack cocaine on his person.

Sargent was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, resisting an officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Additionally, troopers learned that Sargent had an active warrant out for his arrest from a May incident in Putnam, where he’s charged with first-degree criminal trespassing, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.

Sargent was released on $7,500 bond and is set to appear in court on Thursday, July 18.
