Salem woman to invest and help family with lottery winnings
Good luck for Francisca Uceta De Placencio of Salem, as she became the winner of a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$4,000,000 Monopoly Doubler” $10 instant ticket game. De Placencio chose to receive a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. She said she plans to use her winnings to invest and help family. De Placencio purchased the winning ticket at Armas Convenience Store on Jefferson Avenue in Salem. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket. Troop 382 Builds New Footbridge for Westborough’s Sandra Pond
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Boy Scout Troop 382 has helped the Westborough Department of Public Works and Conservation Land Trust build a new footbridge over the Sandra Pond spillway. A spokesman for the Land Trust’s Stewardship Committee tells the Community Advocates the 24-foot-long footbridge is a great example of community collaboration. Officials say the goal is to keep hikers and fishermen from crossing the spillway and causing more damage to it. The DPW is next planning to build a path on both sides of the bridge.
Whalen: Town Residents Couldn’t Afford New Fire Station
Seekonk Fire Chief Shaun Whalen believes a tax increase to pay for a new fire station for the South End of town would have been too much of a burden on residents. Last October, the Select Board voted against placing an article on the Fall Town Meeting warrant. Chair Michael Healy, Pam Pozzi, and Justin Sullivan all voted no, while Chris Zorra and Michelle Hines voted in favor.

Milford Teen Facing Charges for Loaded Gun in Shrewsbury Traffic Stop
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – A Milford teen is facing charges after he was allegedly found with a loaded gun in a car in Shrewsbury. It happened July 14 when a Shrewsbury officer pulled the car over on Route 9. The officer says there were six people in the car and when it stopped two of them ran. But the officer spotted one guy trying to conceal a bag under the seat. A search of the bag allegedly turned up a loaded 9mm handgun. 18-year-old Nicolas Alves-Santos reportedly faces possession of a firearm without a license and several more counts.
