Police officers did not shoot bear in Gatlinburg on Thursday, authorities say
GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Contrary to some posts on social media, the Gatlinburg Police Department said Friday none of its officers shot a bear. The police department said it learned Friday morning about a false social media claim that an officer shot and killed a bear on July 25. It said the "accusation of the Gatlinburg Police Department discharging a firearm and killing a bear is absolutely untrue."

Catalytic converter thieves hit Stinnett Automotive
Newport Police responded Thursday, July 25 to Stinnett Automotive on West Broadway regarding several vehicles on the auto dealership’s lot that had catalytic converters removed. According to an incident report, a total of six vehicles were discovered by employees to have been vandalized. Three of the vehicles were inventory for sale on the lot and three were at the dealership for repairs or awaiting pickup. City of Gatlinburg asks to avoid decorating with produce this fall after bear encounters
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Gatlinburg officials, along with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, are asking people to hold off on using real produce for fall displays. This comes as the area has seen an uptick in bear encounters. City representatives said real producer can be a motivator for bears to enter populated areas.
