Dog-breeding research company to be sentenced for inhumane treatment of Beagles and environmental violations
Following its guilty plea, Envigo will pay the largest-ever fine in an animal welfare case. Envigo, an Indiana-based Beagle-breeding company for research purposes and one of the largest suppliers of laboratory animals in the United States, pled guilty to violating the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA) by neglecting thousands of dogs at its breeding facility in Cumberland, Virginia. The company will be paying a fine of more than $35 million, representing the largest-ever fine in an animal welfare case, according to a news release.1.

VCU 1st Baseman Chris McHugh is transferring to NC State!. McHugh just wrapped up his Freshman season for the Rams, batting .273, with 6 Home Runs, 33 RBI’s, 36 Runs, 22 BB’s, 5 Doubles and 4 Stolen Bases. He boasted an OBP of .390. McHugh started in 53 of the 55 games he played in.

Arlington-Alexandria residents become Va. 'folklife apprentices'
A team from Arlington and Alexandria has been named one of six from across Virginia selected by the Virginia Folklife Program as folklife apprentices for the coming year. Hayrunisa Yenilmes and Amar Kilich (Alexandria) and Ajinur Setiwaldi and Subhinur Elemin (Arlington) were selected for their efforts studying and performing Uyghur traditional music.
