Andrea Wolper will showcase her brand of jazz during a performance on Aug. 2 at Vic’s Jazz Loft, located at The Stabin Museum on West Broadway in Jim Thorpe. Hazleton Quilts of Valor chapter honors veteran
A Quilt of Valor was presented to Wapwallopen resident Sgt. Timothy J. Ammons by Marie Shulenski, group leader of the Hazleton Area Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Shulenski was joined by Quilt of Valor member Debbie Kessell, as they represented members and volunteers all over the country. The organization began in 2003, when a quilter named Catherine Roberts started the movement as her son was deployed in Iraq. Since that time, over 350,000 Quilts of Valor have been awarded throughout our 50 states.

Child suffers minor injuries in fall at Glen
WAVERLY — A five-year-old Waverly boy was fortunate to suffer only minor injuries Thursday after a fall near the waterfall at Waverly Glen Park. According to Waverly Police, at 10:44 a.m. officers responded to a report of a child who had fallen 30 feet from the area of the waterfall at the park. Also responded to the scene were personnel from the Waverly-Barton Fire District and Greater Valley EMS.

SCRANTON, Pa. - Court today granted a rule to show cause why the entire school board of Scranton should not be ousted from office. The rule was made returnable August 7. The petition for the ousting of the board members was presented by district Attorney Harold A. Scragg upon the recommendations of the members of the grand jury.
